All Railroads Are Good. Share More Positive Thoughts.
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, October 2, 2005 8:38 PM
Since joining this forum I have seen several derogatory remarks about each railroad and even about other members. I for one, try to restrain myself from participating in criticizing other railroads and other members. Here lately, several people have been criticizing NS. This also occurs to UP, BNSF, CN, CSX, etc. For starters, these railroads are all trying to do the best they can. Instead of criticizing another railroad that you don't know much about, take some time to research that other railroad and learn more about it and why it does what it does. Facts and positive forward looking statements are much better for this forum than negative expressions about railroads. If a railroad has a problem, then discuss that problem and a possible solution to that problem. Attacking other members because of their opinions and views is definetely wrong and makes the attacking member look very bad. When I disagree with somebody on something, I try to share my difference of opinion with them by trying to be polite and respectful but by also standing firm for what I believe in. I for one, am not perfect and I sometimes do not show the upmost respect for other member's opinions. I can assure you that I will definetely try to show as much respect as possible for other member's opinions and the railroads they like. Remember, this forum is being hosted by Kalmbach Publishing, so we should be very thankful to them and be very respectful towards other members on this forum. It would be very bad to see this forum shut down because of too many disrespectful and derogatory remarks about other members and their opinions. We should all learn from each other. Everybody on here has something good to share with the rest of us. We all Love Railroads, so let's all get along. I hope that you will try as much as I will to discuss Trains in a more positive manner and show more respect towards other members and their opinions. Remember, I am not telling you what to do, I am just trying to give good advice to all of you so that we can have a better forum that more people will want to join. How much success this forum will have at allowing others to learn as much as possible about this great world of railroads is up to us and the decisions we make.
Thank you.

Just because you like railroads does not mean you have to be uncritical of them. When I criciticise a company I try do so in a constructive fashion.

I have a friend who works for Central Trains, one of the privatised Train Operating Companies British Rail was split into 10 years ago. His company are one of the most criticized in Britain but people tend to forget that they've bought a load of new trains even though their franchise commitments did not require them to do so. But they realised the way ahead was to go for growth so they ordered lots of new trains. But like Virgin growth has outpaced the rate at which they can get new trains into service with the result that they are still short of stock which results in overcrowded trains and cancellations. But I think they're getting over this. Meanwhile some of the other TOC's have not bothered to get new trains and have only been able to cope with business growth by acquiring some of the older trains from Central.
