Posted by eolafan on Friday, September 30, 2005 2:20 PM
Did anybody else see the UP Westbound through Rochelle on the webcam at about 1:42 p.m. today with what looked like an old Metra Bilevel about three cars from the rear? Comments?

I just looked at that picture and it kinda does look like a old metra car but it is kinda hard to make out. But if I am not mistaking a company here in wisconsin has a contract to build and refurbish merta cars in fact I have seen a bunch them a train before leaveing the plant and they looked really cool freshly painted [4:-)][tup]

You might have indeed seen them. I was riding on the eastbound California Zephyr in August when we passed through the Roseville CA yard and I saw two bilevels in the old RTA gray/brown/orange scheme. They had no markings. Maybe UP is using them for MOW crews?

The Train that you saw is on it's way to Council Bluffs. It is the MPRCB.

UP has been using old Metra bi-levels & converting them to MOW crew cars. The MOW crew cars are used to shuttle the MOW employees to remote loctions.
