Amtrak Detour

Today, I spotted a sight that hasnt been seen for years here in Southwest Wyoming. And mow thanks to the Trains.com news wire. It was an eastbound amtrak train travelling about 30 MPH, Saw the blue on the loco and thought at first that it was proly the MP unit roaming the rails.

Anyone know exactly what kind of maintenence is taking place on it normal route through grand junction?

MiniWyo:

It's a laundy list of stuff:

Undercutter between Winter Park and Tabernash (really ugly mud problems)

Steel gangs laying new 141# curve steel

Tie Gangs

Switch gangs and relays

With the Moffat Tunnel Sub running at capacity from the Western Colorado Coal mines to points east, the years of maintenance deferred by SP & Anshutz has gotten to almost crisis stage and UP, to their credit, is well on its way to reversing the problems in an orderly, planned approach. This is not a last minute deal.
