Live Webcams
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, June 5, 2005 8:34 PM
Does anyone know of any other "Live" Webcams as good as the ones in Rochelle, IL. and Fort Madison IA.
Many of the ones that I've seen are not really live, but are vidios.

The new Sandpatch cam on trainorders.com is great. It doesn't work like the Rochelle one, but it's very good... With sound. Only down side is, you have to pay for access too everything at trainorders. But it's not a bad fee.

Hey guys:
Thank you for the information , I really enjoy watching trains . I relocated from Hendersonville TN. to the Midwest this winter. their isn't as many train as their was in TN. It was a great train watching spot in the City park , CSX would come through about every half our or less, day and night, a very busy route .

Live Webcams my listing reposted 5-28-05

Well the very BEST webcam in my opinion Fullerton CA was just
taken down on the large Trainweb website.
I agree with you that the very best rail webcams are the truly live versions.
This series of Trainweb webcams *railcams* was just taken down
on May 27th because Trainweb is moving their offices to larger facilites.
The Fullerton Raicams are supposed to be reinstalled
sometime this month (June). This all depends on how smoothly
that office transfer goes. I will of course be crossing my fingers on that one. I really, really hope that Trainweb manages to reinstall
those cameras soon so that I can see more of that very busy railroad.
Read the Trainweb posting on their BIG move here:
http://www.trainweb.com/cgi-bin/top/tw_do.cgi?news/2005/2005e26a.html

The Fullerton CA Railcams that were (are?) located
at the VERY VERY busy passenger and freight
Fullerton Santa Fe Depot that
is now used by Amtrak and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad.
The Fulleton CA Santa Fe Depot was (is) so busy that I never had to
wait any longer than about 10 minutes before I would see a train in Fullerton CA.

The Trainweb www.railcams.com website also currently provides 2 other
good live webcams at Olympia WA and Santa Ana CA.
For other good Railcams elsewhere on the web see my earlier reply
on this subject to this very same Trains dot com forum using
the TinyURL redirect at:

I hope this answers your question!

As I recall, there is a site that lists a large number of railcams worldwide. Time to Google on "railcams" and "web cams", along with any other variations you can think of. You'll find a bunch, ranging from live to hourly updates, to haven't updated in weeks.

The Galesburg webcam is good - user controllable and real-time. I caught the same Amtrak at Fort Madison, then an hour later at Galesburg just the other day.

The whole site or just the cam? It works for me. You have to have a membership to get the big features like the cams. But I think the Sand Patch one is great quality. If he gets a couple more features like that, I don't think he'll have a hard time getting people to sign up.

A sample of the sand patch on is here:
