I am still a big proponent of "Asking for permission is easier that asking for forgiveness". A few months ago I wanted to photograph the Ex-D&RGW now Amtrak station in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Even though I was going to be staying on public land, I still went into the station and explained to the officials what I wanted to do and to make sure that it was alright. They looked somewhat baffled and said it was fine and I was able to get my pictures. That way I always figure that if I do end up being confronted by law enforcement I can have them go and talk to the person that I talked to and, in theory, everything should be fine.
