dave, <br />i think compartments could be set within the hold of the barge. this is not infrequently done on ocean vessels for grain hauls (plywood/poly/2x4 partitions). this allows vessels principally loaded with , let's say, corn to be "topped off" with wheat or soybeans. the question with barge transport would be whether the cost in time, effort and money would ever be worth while for movements of 200 to 750 miles. my feeling is that cost would be prohibitive. <br />...as to the rest of the thread, it's a great exchange of ideas.
