Abandoned Tracks in the US by the Big 4 Railroads?

How many Miles of Track are Abandoned, sold, or leased by the Big 4 Railroads in the US. How many miles of Mainline track are there in the US[?]

You could probably find some of these stats by looking at company web sites, at least for active/leased lines. Abandonments are more complicated because it depends what time frame you are asking about.
Some of the UP that was originally built in 1869, near the site of the Golden Spike, was abandoned less than a year later (after the Central Pacific was deemed to be "the" route, in the areas where the lines ran parallel.)

You mean just like the CNW Railway. The CNW Railway just loved to Abandon lot's of Track.

Yes, CNW loved to abandon lines, but thats how it avoided going the way of the Milwaukee Road and Rock Island. See April 1994 TRAINS for more info.
