The new business philosophy:

If you can't export the jobs to a third world country then import the third world working conditions to the US.

Meanwhile, the Walton family gets richer and richer, in fact they were so embarrassingly rich they split the reporting of their wealth in Forbes so people would not notice. Hey, if they are so short of drivers, put the trust fund kids out to drive truck for 16 hours per day. They are already making millions of $$ annually, they could be the highest paid drivers out there and set the wage patterns for the rest of the industry.

So, Jim, basically the argument of this article can be boiled down to:

Sounds pretty close to socialism to me.

No where in this opinion piece is there a mention of government ownership of the means of production. If there is no mention of govenment ownership of the means of production...

How can you say something like; "Sounds pretty close to socialism to me."

The "Right" sometimes likes to cloud the issues by bringing into the conversation highly charged words, one of these words is "socialism." Well, this is the definition of "socialism" from the NEW WEBSTER"S DICTIONARY:

"A theory or method of social oganization and government whereby the citizenary jointly owns the means of production and distrubution, and the power of administrative control is vested in the state"

In the above quoted opinion piece, there is NO mention of ownership of the means of production and/or distrubution by the state!

So, if you're a thinking man, just how could you make that statement?

Jim - Lawton, NV MP236

Easily, apparently you haven't considered the consequences of the system you are proposing, the LEFT seldom does.

If everyone is paid high wages and private business is forced to carry all of the costs you seem to think it can carry then there will be no more private business as there will be no one willing to invest except the government. What you end up with is a European social welfare state like Sweden. Cradle to grave coverage and social support, but no small business and little enteprenural business. Perhaps not quite socialism, but not far from it. Certainly not the American Free Enterprise System and not the balance between labor and management that will realistically keep our economy competitive and expanding.

I stand by what I said. Can you?!
