[font=Times New Roman]During the past week of Nov. 5th, Amtrak's Pres. Gunn was in Florida to present Amtrak's annual Presidential Awards to employees. Lets see what the next days ahead will bring (along with the next 4 years with Pres. Bush)! The interesting thing here is, I found out more info about Amtrak on this web site long before we're "officially" told at work (i.e. the roadrailers` demise). The "buzz" at work about Pres. Gunn's possible departure is news to us with this info gained from this web site! Another web site supporting this "rumour" was found with the same info about Pres. Gunn and was posted on Oct. 23rd.

I can't really blame Mr. Gunn for wanting to depart and return to his prior retirement, instead of having to deal with the constant headache of under funding by the gov't., etc. We like the way he has stood his ground with the funding issue - support the system which you, the gov't., had created, or, shut it down.

We've always said amongst ourselves (the pawns on the Amtrak Chess board) that this railroad should go ahead and shut down during the week and let the public, and, the gov't. see what the northeast would look like (a parking lot on I-95 from Washington DC to New York).

I know most of the country wouldn't see much of an impact from this action, but, the rest of the country should think about the impact when all of those "northeasterners" are now consuming more gasoline each year without their train service being available.

A passenger railroad is a form of public transportation, such as a subway and a bus system are, and, the passenger railroad should be funded properly. In turn, the passenger trains help to reduce the impact of the thousands of cars and additional buses that would be placed onto the highways creating more traffic congestion and pollution. And, again, there's the annual fuel savings by not having these additional vehicles on the roads - which in turn reduces our need for Arab OPEC oil.
