Colorization of early photographs

<p>I wouldn't hold my breath. As described above there are too many unknown.</p> <p>As examples a few photos of the same type of steam locomotive. It is not known when or if the jackets were painted black. The graphite had to be repainted regularly and it was mixed in the shops.</span></span></div> <div><span style="font-size:12pt;line-height:115%;font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><span lang="EN-US">Planished iron varied in shade as did graphite. Add to this the other circumstances and I'd be surprised when it really does happen.</span></span></div> <div><span style="font-size:12pt;line-height:115%;font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><span lang="EN-US">I searched quite a time for color information about Russian/planished iron. With the help of an American friend I sorted these, prepared a numper of possibly fitting paint chips and shipped them to the USA. With his and a person involved in old-timer steam locotive restauration I got back two close choices.</span></span></div> <div><span style="font-size:12pt;line-height:115%;font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><span lang="EN-US">In the end it still was a guess.<br />Regards, Volker</span></span></div> <div> </div>
