Manifest Freight

Can someone please tell me what a 'manifest freight' is? I see that term all the time in Trains and Model Railroader but I have no clue what it means.

These are the freight trains that haul various kinds of cars (boxcars, flatcars, tankcars, hopper cars, and/or gondolas), usually from one train yard to another.
