That is one tight curve.   I wonder how much they make on that run?    One car delivery with street running.

Interesting crossing tower down the street. Looks like it has been restored.

Interesting crossing tower down the street. Looks like it has been restored.

The tower is the property of, and serves as the symbol of, the local NRHS chapter.

There aren't many like it any more.

The Suzie-Q has a number of customers well beyond the FX Matt Brewery.  All of them do involve the street running on Schuyler Street.  This line used to go to Binghamton.

This is the line over which the runaway that hit the steam locomotive at Utica Union Station ran a few years ago.  The car that ran away was a covered hopper, similar to this one.  It was loaded with plastic pellets, I believe.  Picture a hopper rambling down the street all by itself...

I've been in the hospitality room at Matt's- It's like stepping back to the 1920s. A beautiful room to have a beer in.

The brewery also serves as the finish line for the "Boilermaker" races each year.  I believe a cold one is one of the rewards for completing the race...

The 15K race attracts runners from all over the world.  The 5K is popular as well, but more with the local crowd.  The "boilermaker" comes from an initial sponsor - Utica Boiler.  The other initial sponsor was Saranac beer (F.X. Matt brand).

There are other videos of street running on Schuyler Street.  Look up "railroading rambler."

Existing clearances undoubtedly "grandfathered-in". Wouldn't be switching there with a six axle loco or a newer loco with limited throw couplers. Looks like there have been past "issues"...

Great video.

I am planning to railfan in NY and PA in upcomings weeks and I am very interested in NYS&W operations. Is there some regularity in the operations? Some train schedules? I am particularly interested in the Syracuse - Binghamton line and the street running in Utica.

Thank you very much.

Best,

Alejandro

For the Utica traffic, check out "Railroading Rambler" on YouTube.  Might get you some clues.  Suzie-Q also runs further south, at least to Sangerfield, I believe.

The track we can see, outdoors, looks to be a 28-degree curve.
