Here is a video showing an SD40 clone operating in New South Wales, Australia painted in full Wisconsin Central colors and scheme, operated by WCL subsidiary ATN knocking down the semaphores. Jump to 11:45 to view the scene;

I realize that this doesn't exactly fit the OP but how do the techs service locomotives with no walkways along their length? Do they have to pull alongside a platform?

There's room inside the carbodies.  I've worked on both sides of the prime mover in an EMD F unit many times.

Doors and other panels are removable.

Isn't it unbearably hot if the locomotive has been running?

Can you swing the panels open from the inside to get some cooling when the engine is hot?

Unless there's a problem, I think you'll find that most folks stay out of the body when it's that hot.  The cooling fans will also pull outside are in.
