They're just another configuration of your normal, run-of-the-mill three bay hopper.  

Like ore jennies, they're tailored to the work they are designed for - gravel, sand, limestone, even iron ore.  I'd imagine if they're carrying ore (or taconite), they aren't loaded to the top...
