Winter has finally made its arrival here.  We got 1-3 inches of snow beginning overnight and it's continuing at a lighter pace for now.[/quote]

We're slated for 8" or more here...

My thoughts are on the same line.  If it was a rogue transmitter it would raise and lower the door.  I would check the limits and increase the down force.

Made some screwdriver adjustments on the down force and, for now, things seem to be working correctly.

I actually decreased the down force...

Joe - If you're headed for Deshler tonight, stay away from 18/65 - bad accident.

After about eight inches of snow, the sun has come out here.  Hopefully tomorrow is a good travel day.  I'm pretty much packed for the big train show in MA.

We're having a cold snap (teens and single digits) for the next couple of days with varying amounts of snow depending on where you live.  A warmup to closer to normal temps is forecast by next weekend.  I really can't complain since this winter has been almost unusually mild.

The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

Met another denizen of the railroad forums at the show today.  Haven't heard today's attendance today yet.  Yesterday saw over 11,000...

Faced with a 4.5 hour drive home, and a stop to unload the show kit, I'm staying in MA tonight and will hit the road tomorrow morning, right after breakfast.

The drive home was largely uneventful - a little snow but no accumulation on the roads.

Got the show materials unloaded, then sat in on a birthday/baby shower/going away celebration for one of our employees.

I was within a half hour of reaching the house when the fire department for the area I was driving through was dispatched for a car fire next to a building, so I swung over.

It was Jeep, burning pretty well in the engine compartment.

No injuries, but the Jeep is toast.

Attendance at the big show in Massachusetts was GATE: 18,369...TOTAL POPULATION: 21,869.  The second number includes the vendors.

We're back home again and pretty well recovered from a 24-hour stretch of no sleep (787 Dreamliner didn't live up to its name, even in Premium Economy).  Before we left, I did manage to get a picture of a small 0-4-2 steam engine sitting on display in a bar and grill on Maui, formerly used by the sugar cane industry.

Edit: As far as how the vacation went, it could have been better.  For the five nights that we were there, Maui was pretty much under assault from Mother Nature with rain everywhere, sometimes at the rate of up to 3" an hour.  Needless to say, it resulted in flash flooding in stream beds that are normally dry on the west side of the island.  One of the events that we were signed up for, an evening dinner cruise on a catamaran, was cancelled.  We did manage to enjoy a luau and complete a drive around the Road To Hana loop before the heavy rains arrived, though.

Mild, but windy, right now - temperature is right at freezing, but the wind is pretty gusty.  I can definitely feel it in the house.  That heated waterbed is going to feel really good tonight.

Cold front coming through tonight with sub-zero temperatures that are supposed to hang on for a day or so.

Bad accident in the middle of some lake effect snow yesterday.  Three semi's and nine cars.  Three people were transported, and the jaws had to be used to free a couple of folks wedged under a semitrailer.

Pizza's in the oven, then off to the fire meeting.

Currently -7.2F, with a wind chill of -18.9F, and it's supposed to get colder tonight.

Fortunately, by Monday we're supposed to see above freezing temperatures again...

Edit:  At daybreak we had -27°F.  Brrrr.

Mid 40's today for my trip to my daughter's house for granddaughter's birthday.  A light mist on the way home, but nothing significant.

The garage door issue has a new development.  It had been mentioned that if it was a rogue transmitter causing my door to open unexpectedly, that it would close unexpectedly as well.  Well, today, it did just that, leading me to wonder how often it's opened and closed without me realizing it.  I close it when I leave, and it's still closed when I get home.  Perhaps it opened, then closed again while I was gone.

I'm getting another Blink camera to put inside the garage so that will trip when the door moves, too...

We've got a Liftmaster garage door opener that is equipped with WiFi, and get notices via its MyQ app every time the door opens and closes.  I also attached an add-on camera to the opener (magnetic base), so I can see why it opened/closed.  Great peace of mind!

There should be a proceedure to clear all learned remotes from the opener.

The wifi based openers are nice for the alerts and opening with the phone.

It's an older opener, but there probably is.  The problem seems to be one of the new remotes I got not that far back.
