Hearing rumors of a major system, currently over the Great Plains, working its way east.
Warm would be nice. Zero here this morning.

Looks like you got our 'atmospheric river'. Plenty of snow over the weekend in the mountains (six feet at Donner, three in the foothills and Truckee). Unfortunately nothing decent is forecast in the near future to alleviate the severe drought here.
Here are some snow links:

For travelers, if you want some forecast video see Sacramento TV stations like KCRA https://www.kcra.com/weather also found on YT and local news consolidators. By contrast, the SFBA stations focus on local weather and tack on Sierra snow in the last 15 seconds .
This also explains why you will see a lot of footage of local affluent high end SUV drivers driving up there completely unprepared for chain conditions, sometimes dressed in shorts and flipflops . Many truckers are no better - they blow through the checkpoints and hit the ice a mile down the road (envision video in slow motion) closing the freeway again.
Ah, wintertime ....

Concert was great last night. Was able to see some trains on Csx as well.Ns had one come through after work today. Will see if they send any while I am going to Edgerton.Need to get ready.
Forecasting upwards of a foot of the white stuff in the next few days.
Great - I'm headed down to the railroad Friday for a couple of days - and will be driving right through the snow belt.
At least I'm staying over and won't be driving back through it until Saturday...
Forecast is for a Ice Storm Thursday morning - upto 1/2 inch of ice.
Brine trucks were out most of the day Wednesday pretreating the roads.
Delayed openings for schools over most of the state West of the Chesapeake Bay.
Never too old to have a happy childhood!
Heard a train on Ns after work today. They don't have many cars uptown.Had a good time with brother at his Christmas party.Let Comet Donner and Blitzen cross the road on the way home.College boy comes home tomorrow.Mom has the pantry stocked up.Glad tomorrow is Friday.
The snow is about to begin here. I'm hoping for a best case scenario for my trip to the railroad tomorrow. There's heavy snow and wind in the forecast, though, so it may not be a pleasant trip.
This is the last weekend of PE, the last trains being on Monday. I doubt I'll work that day unless they are really hard up for help... I do like to work the last trips, though, as they are usually followed by a get-together at a local restaurant.
Inch and a half of rain throughout the day. Fortunately temperatures have been above freezing.
While most people head south in winter, I'm heading north. My wife is visiting her old college roommate in Hartford, CT so I'm leaving very early tomorrow morning for an overnight trip to the Soo. It's been several years since I've been there. The railfanning isn't much anymore, now that the Wisconsin Central and Algoma Central are gone. It'll be mostly "boatnerding". I'm hoping to catch a few of the footers that normally run Twin Ports-Chicago like the Indiana Harbor, Burns Harbor and Stewart Cort, since I don't see them in Detroit. Hopefully, I'll find a good whitefish dinner somewhere to make the trip complete!
PS-There was a big, easterly blow on Superior so many of the ships were anchored in bays, but they're all moving once again.
Winter finally made its appearance in our part of the Chicago area with about a half inch of snow, fortunately on the grassy areas only. Streets and sidewalks were only wet but not slick.
evening
Ns had one each way after work today.Ran errands after work.Used a rebate to pick up an HO scale model hobby shop.College boy is home.Going to look for trains tomorrow.Do have a little bit of snow.Guessers say look out next Friday.
Took a trip down the Toledo sub today.Went to get a couple more lights for the layout in Wapakoneta.Went further down to Botkins and then worked our way back north.L 70 on Ns needed more room to work at Liepsic.Csx had a B 522 in the west siding at Deshler. Also M 353 was taking it's parking spot in track 4 at West Deshler.Guessers are still not sure how much snow is coming later this week. Also saw a clip that on Dec 20th they are going to start the station move in Hamilton Ohio.Good times.
Ran my last Polar Expresses, and my last trains, for the season tonight. Two more nights of PE, but I'm not working them.
First time running our M420. And our mechanic was on board tinkering with transition. He thinks it's where he wants it... It's a good engine.
Ns was quiet after work today.Co-worker said he was tired of winter already.Told him it doesn't start until Wed. College boy went with the boss grocery shopping.Chores to do here.
