"Meticulously Planned Logistics Operation Underway To Celebrate Queen’s Life"Operation Unicorn and Operation London Bridge are now well underway in the wake of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II."

FTA:"...Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to make their way to Scotland to pay their respects and “would be encouraged to gather around the Scottish Parliament, the Palace of Holyrood House and St Giles’ Cathedral – all on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile.”

The Queen’s body “will be conveyed from Aberdeen to Edinburgh on a special train, with members of the Armed Forces and the emergency services lining every platform on the way.”

Because the train will be traveling well below normal speed, “security will be ultra-tight with air, land and sea covered by the military. Temporary fire and police stations will be set up at the Palace of Holyroodhouse with a strong armed police presence, backed by the military.

"...After arrival in Edinburgh, the Queen’s body “would initially rest in state at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, before her coffin is carried to St Giles’ Cathedral. At the cathedral, Scotland’s senior civic leaders, dignitaries and members of the public will have the opportunity to pay their respects and sign a book of condolence.”

The Queen’s coffin “would then be placed on a Royal Train at Waverley Station” before making the trip “down the East Coast Mainline to London. Operation Unicorn ends when her Majesty leaves Scotland for the last time, again with an honor guard formed on every platform from Edinburgh southward...”

Queen Elizabeth was not the first monarch in England to travel by train... Her train was put in service about 1977.         FTL(below): "...Queen Victoria, had a golden, interior, luxurously appointed, train in 1844. ( see linked article) @ https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/news/18925568.royal-train-everything-else-want-know/

It seems appropriate, that Queen Elizabeth, who was a frequent traveler between London, and Aberdeen, (@ Balmoral Castle) Scotland, should have a palce in this Forum, as she traveled with her own train.

I do hope the train is pulled by a steam locomotive.  The Queen was a BIG steam fan as I understand.

A 66 Class would be a nice touch.
The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

Sorry to rain on the parade, but now the expectation is that she will travel by road to Edinburgh, and after a pause, the RAF will fly her on south to London.

As I recall, the funeral arrangements for the funerary Procession of Queen Elizabetg II were prettywell documented in the Operational plans for "Unicorn" . The move between Aberdeen and Edinburough were to be by Royal Train. After each period of "laying in State" at appropriate locations in each city.

The Royal Train would proceed at a reduced rate of speed, passing 'packed' staton platforms so the population could view her passage [ala, Lincoln, and more recently, the Kennedy's].   Into London @ St. Pancras; each platform would be lined with uniformed soldiers from each of the UK's servioce branches.

The more recent 'changes' have been spoken of in the press, but I suspect until the period of laying in state in Scotland are complete; it is pretty much a mattewr of conjecture(?)  [ This is for Flintlock 76  ! Bow  ]

Thanks Sam!

You know, most British steam locomotives have an elegant look about them, but THIS one looks formidable!

Article on The Royal Train. It apparently uses a Class 67 Diesel. But maybe steam will be substituted for this trip.

I wonder if she ever got to run one again after 1951?

In this Forum, I should note that my work on the design and construction and openig rewarded me with excellent trips on the Ocean Limited and one ride on the Chalottetown - Moncton mixed train, with its on-train ferry crossing, with lunch in the boat's dining hall.
