Diningcar:   I can't speak with any autority as to the railroad's being effected by flooding out West.  

   What I can speak to is that it would apear that the eastbound traffic (specifically, JB Hunt's, et al)  seem to be running thru here towards the East (KC area, and beyond(?) ( Mulvane- Main #3- ElDorado sub)   pretty regularly, there is a daily, morning train , (about 10AM-12Noon(?)-that generally comrises a mix of stacked JBH's, and others, (lots of UPS and FedEx TOFC) and ususlly, a number of Common Carrier reefer & dry freight cans-  does not seem to be getting any shorter!  

Lots of directional fleeting still happening by here; apparently the track work northeast of here in the Flint hills is still progressing(? see MIkeF90 's Thread for details).  Last evening there was a pretty long, possiby, 5K'+ , computer controlled (?),  BNSF ballast train, passed (westbound) ; had probably a dozen cars were (still loaded) in the consist.

Thanks, samfp1943.  I recall washouts between Needles and Barstow many years ago at locations where there was no defined creek or stream that my eyes could find under normal conditions.

Webcams at Barstow, Kingman and Flagstaff might give a hint. BNSF website does have info on some disruptions from time to time if they figure to last for more than a few hours.

EDIT: Caltrans is showing problems on old 66 between Ludlow and Amboy and just east of Chambless. This is on the phone app QuickMap. On the browser version, everything is clear, and their listing for 66 says "all is well" so, as they say, YMMV.

There have been frequent alerts and occasional track closures east of Kingman over the last week. The last night or two high wind warnings (gusts to 60 mph) have been broadcast for long stretches between Needles and Barstow.

Tropical Storm Kay is now expected to cause flooding across the Mojave Desert and northern Arizona. Coconino County (Flagstaff) is predicting flooding. Any specific news is appreciated.

I think most of the rain from Kay has already fallen, with most of that falling on the eastern side of the peninsular mountains (e.g. Mount Laguna, San Jacinto). A bit reminiscent of Kathleen of 1976 almost exactly 46 years earlier, but with maybe 1/3rd the rainfall. Satellite image from a few minutes ago shows some clouds in the air mass pulled into the imperial Valley from the Gulf of California, but doesn't like much rain will come from that.
