Who's Judith Durham? Well if any of you out there are old enough to remember the music group "The Seekers" who brought us songs like "World Of Our Own," "Georgy Girl," and "I'll Never Find Another You" then you remember Judith Durham, their exceptional lead singer.
She passed away August 5th.

That he was! And I remember the Captain had a Lionel layout on the set and would run the trains on occasion. I'd love to find some video of those sequences but I'm afraid they've been lost.

I recall from when my kids were watching seeing a video set to "I'm a Train." It included a head-on view of an articulated locomotive going through some switches with the front engine swinging w-a-a-y-y out.
The song is by Albert Hammond. There are a lot of videos on-line, and it's popular with a capella groups.

That's a fun song all right. Now, I'm too old to remember Captain Kangaroo playing it in the 1970's, but the train squences I remember are from around 1960, give-or-take a few years either direction. There were some good shots from different angles of the layout but I don't remember the background music though.
But I can see those Lionels in my mind's eye like it was yesterday!
An interesting side note is that the three guys in the Seekers met in school (Melbourne High) in Australia in the 1950s and worked together as a group for several years before Judith joined them - and continued to work together after Judith retired a few years ago. Over 60 years together.

Thanks for posting this. I lived and worked in Australia for more than five years. One of the highlights of my stay in Melbourne was to hear Judith sing at the MCG. As noted elsewhere, she had a magnificent voice. I have many of her songs on my computer. A favorite is "I am Australian".
The train is Puffing Billy. I rode it at least once a year during my stay in Melbourne.
