Thought Q was for Quebec.
Never too old to have a happy childhood!
Q is indeed for Quebec. While QNSL is the reporting mark and the spelling in the company's URL, the railroad has always been QNS&L.
ON I remember as Ontario Northland.
diningcar is right about OR&L
I can't find any reference to the initials in the original post; I think we need more information about why this is a question here.
The first response was the correct answer.
Backshop The first response was the correct answer.
The OR&L lasted until after WW2. Terminal operations in Honolulu lasted into the 1970s. Part of the line was retained by the U S Navy between Pearl Harbor and an ammunition storage facility.
Part of that remaining trackage was donated by the Navy and is now the home of the Hawaiian Railway Society.
I'm not sure the first response is correct. Given that the initials are wrong and no other information is given.

We all would like the OP to say where the UMLER/AAR initials came from. I'm wondering if it was a bastardized initials of something else (like something modelers do - or - a serious oops)
