So, what's with all the "403 Forbidden" notices I've been getting when trying to post replies, and in some instances even trying to edit my own messages?
At first I suspected some form of disciplinary crack down, but now it seems too random and sporadic to be anything focused, or for purpose?

Never too old to have a happy childhood!
It's funny, but docs claim that "403" is usually a client side mafunction. failure to properly identify yourself.
But in another thread, I was given a "403" trying to edit a post I had just made...and received the 403 several times in succession. HOWEVER, I was able to make a completely new post in the same thread, while still suffering from the 403 prohibition.
And, one thing that I am certain of, either I am me, or I am not. I cannot be both.

I believe 403's are time out errors - one side of the the other has not received a expected 'hand shake'.
I have only seen them when dealing with Kalmbach sites.
In reality a "403 Forbidden" message indicates that the systems firewall has blocked your access to the site. I know because I spenet 45 years working with computers before I retired. You need to contact Kalmbach and have their systems security personnel determine why you are blocked.

Yet you try the same action 5 minutes later and everything is fine and dandy.

Here's the funny thing: I was blocked from editing a post, but was able to make new replies in the same thread, as well as start this thread new...at the same time.
And, after several minutes, I was finally able to edit the thread that I previously was forbidden to edit.
So, even their inconsistency is unreliable. It's like there is a little garden gnome playing with the switch on the authentication server
I had a "403" on the "Classic Toy Trains" Forum when I tried to open a new topic. "What the hell," I said, "I'll try again tomorrow."
Next day, no problem. I guess the gremlin took a day off.
AWS was having a host of issues yesterday. It is probably related

Currently getting 403 errors when I attempt to post verbage to a thread. Thread takes numbers and punctuation fine.
Balt's signature now shows as a clickable link that goes nowhere when clicked.
OvermodBalt's signature now shows as a clickable link that goes nowhere when clicked.
I haven't done anything to it to create the issue. Kalmbach IT strikes again.
For whatever reasons - Kalmbach IT changed the signature statement to look like a link including the underlining which is not specified in it.
Am getting 403s also cannot quickly open reply, paste , and submit but get a 403,
Yeah, me too when I try to post a link. Happened last night, happening this morning. Oh well. I'll try again later.
I believe many of these problems are due to overload, not necessarily at the Kalmbach website, but also possibly at your server or browser link. At times i solved the immediate problem by switching fro Firefox to Chroime--- or the reverse.
Keep in mind that Kalmach uses the minimum to do what they are doing, since they are not a pure philanthropy. When you go from one part ofc the site to aanother. you actually leaving the site and returnig. And sometimii it is faster to do this manually!
On top of the "broken" avatar functionality, I can no longer make friend requests, either. Whenever I try, I get the same "mushrooming" blank entry box that they put up instead of the avatar console.
I fear we might be in the midst of the final countdown
getting the "403" right now on the LA frieght hijacking thread, let's see if thus interim post in an alternate thread unjams the works.
Interesting tidbit just uncovered today, but in the thread about container looting in Los Angeles, when trying to respond (with quoted content) to one of Flintlocks posts, I kept getting the "403 Forbidden" roadblock. And I must have retried a good 6-8 times with the same failure.
But, after stripping off the quote from Flintlock, my originally generated content posted on first attempt. There was something about the quote that was triggering the rejection.
I think it's time to find a younger hamster for the treadmill.
I believe it wsas a simple matter that deleting the quote reduced the total bit-count, allowing your overloaded server to handle it.

Paste your 403 to an edit..
Edit: You will not believe this but this post was 403.

I actually tried that. After maybe a half dozen rejections, I copied the post, quote and all, and started a new post that was like "boo", or something real short...and that post went thru.
But then when I tried to edit and paste the text from my clipboard, I got "403" rejections every time. So, I replaced "boo" with a completely different message (without the quote) and then it accepted that.
I try to be understanding, knowing that right now are challenging times for print media. But there is a LOT to be said for consistency, ...especially when you haven't got it.
I, too, am now on the 403 ride, in trying to post a response to Convicted One on the LA looting topic. It's been that way for hours.

It's really odd running into the stonewall in one thread, but being able to post in a separate thread with no problem...
403 seems to come and go in my experience.
For this particular "input", it's staying. I just tried again: 403
I also just posted freely in that topic. Without getting a 403.
