Hello everyone: I've always loved trains. I'm looking for a good book that has a quasi-technical introduction to railroading- how tracks work, how locomotives are designed and driven, etc. However, most everything I've found so far seems to be fall into the category of "Trains are Cool for Kids!", "Giant Coffee Table Book of Mostly Just Pictures", or "900 Page Tome on How to Actually Sit Down and Design a Locomotive". Anything out there that's more technical than the second but less than the third? Not looking for a history book, but a description of modern railroading.

I tried to sell my two cents worth, but no one would give me a plug nickel for it.
