No, not spine cars (centerbeams), the original (?) name for what is no known as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (with side trips to Old Sergeants Syndrome and Bicycle Face:

Does have to be said, though, that this comes not long after the somewhat-forgotten revelations of the "extraordinary case of Sarah Hawkes" -- which did implicate spinal nerves in a great number of complex behaviors.  See the interesting take on the 'evolution' of railway spine in medicine in Bruce Sterling's The Difference Engine -- not all steampunk is romantic!
