IHB West End Questions - Chicago
Posted by Outsailing86 on Monday, February 1, 2021 10:46 PM

I've got some questions about the IHB.
why is it called Norpaul yard? what trains originate from there?
what are some industries that are switched between Franklin Park and Blue Island?
thanks!

Some industries on the IHB Outer Belt include EMD at McCook, Vulcan Materials quarry also in McCook, and an industrial park in Alsip reached by some long leads.

The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

Norpaul = "Northwest" and "St. Paul", the two major railroads (CNW and MILW) whose classification yards were close at hand.  I know that we CNW guys would deliver the IHB several cuts of cars per day, taking them to just outside the yard (on the "Northwest Lead" and another lead whose name I've forgotten).  We used to have a "Harbor Local" classification, which would handle cars for the IHB anywhere west (north) of Argo Yard.
