Saturday (and now Sunday) Tehachapi Loop MOWSHOW
Posted by ChuckCobleigh on Saturday, September 12, 2020 3:01 PM

Today (9/12) the UP folks are replacing deck sections on the bridge just east (RR South) of Woodford siding. Still going on at 1 pm PDT, started going at the bridge at about 7:30 am after two manifests went through, one in each direction. Nice view from the Tehachapi Loop railcam of the festivities.

EDIT: Now Sunday morning finds the troops massed for more activity at the bridge at 7:30 am PDT.

May be close to the end of the MOW window, a WB UP is now passing through Green St crossing on the Depot cam: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RHeHn5Py1I

UPDATE: three WBs are passing through and it looks like a few bridge sections are positioned, probably for work tomorrow.

Traffic starting to move again, WB BNSF Z first, now a WB UP IM west of town now, but not yet on the bird cam. I'll have to bet there are a lot of UP trucks parked at the Fairfield Inn on W. Tehachapi Blvd these days. Wouldn't mind being there, as lows in the 50s sound good to me. Reporting 88° and 9% humidity at the airport at 4:15 pm today.

The best thing about Tehachapi today is the Wind; it was blowing about 15 mph and the sky was blue and clear-ish. The only other windfarm location that might be working is the Banning pass. Altamont pass near here is almost calm.

The west coast and Idaho are still blanketed by wildfire smoke. Later today the ridge about 1.5 miles north finally became visible.

Monday, the depot cam should have the resumption of the Green Street crossing work. I suspect the locals will be glad to see that done and Green Street crossing open so they don't have to go down to Hayes street or over to Tucker Road to get to the north side of town.

The Depot cam shows that at least the west sidewalk has been poured, crossing reopening should be 'any day now'.

Bird cam will be operating until about 3pm local, reportedly.

The MOW work at the Tehachapi creek bridge appears to be done. An EB just passed the depot cam. Too bad the AQI has turned for the worse (red = unhealthy).

Looking at replay, a WB BNSF "worm train" went through the loop a little after 10 this morning. One shot this morning showed no activity at the bridge; looks like a day or two off for the crew. A well-earned rest after days of labor.

EDIT: Watching the SF Juntion cleanup on the rail cams has been a good show as well. Got to say that like the creek bridge crew, it's clear that this wasn't their first rodeo.
