Latest Bid Price: $15,000 (Cost of a new Corolla)
Buy it Now Price: $55,000 ( Cost of a new Hummer)

Not bad! Even for a unit with wear and tear. Some of the F40s in better shape are going for as much as $200,000!

Can you imagine winning the bid and telling your wife or husband:
"Hey Honey! Guess what I just bought!" [:p] Of course, the doghouse will be prepared for your very lonnnnnnng term stay![:p][B)]

I really do hope that she's not bought for scrap and that a museum or tour operator wins the bid to restore her to running condition. Like any EMD 40 series locomotives, these units were very tough and could take a beating. Especially considering that when running in H.E.P mode the 16 cylinder 645 diesel was in Run 8!

That's quite a very all purpose vehicle. If you have a licence and all that plus the important part-track; traffic isn't a problem because the cars stop for you, hook it up to the house and use it as a back up generator; someone honks then by all means honk back; unless someone has an AC4400CW or something else,;you have quite the masculine vehicle (who has a vehicle that does over 3000 hp?-Tim Allen grunt).

If they have a bathroom in it and they likely do, it's always good to have an extra washroom. Nobody will try to steal it. If they tried, you can have those alarm systems where the horn beeps-people will definately know what's going on. In relation to the previous statement, it is a great way to punish your neighbours.

I'm imagining a group of 5 "punks" that are drunk going into a the owner's backyard and breaking into the locomotive........... and that K5 Horn goes off like a car alarm!!!! [:O] In a stupified panic they cover their ears and as they run out of the cab like roaches...........THEY FORGET THAT THE FIRST STEP IS A "LU-LU"!!!! [:O] [:O] [B)]

10 minutes later you have 5 intoxicated punks laying on the grass, several broken legs, ambulances, the 11o'clock news, and best of all.........a group of cops laughing hysterically! [(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D]

Geez, right in my backyard. Too bad my garage isn't big enough. I hate to think what the interest rate would be on the loan to purchase it. The loan people at the bank would laugh. The insurance and taxes for it would be a heart attack away.

Maybe we should all get together with Kalmbach and buy it. Then all the fans in southeast Wisconsin could volunteer to help fix it up so it looked cool. What a great publicity gimmick that would be: The Kalmbach F40, # 1027. Then "we" could lease it to other railroads and get all that publicity.

Every time I see something like this, I bring it to the attention of my Chief of Staff and Family Comptroller- i.e., my wife.

She has restated her desire to maintain an open driveway, allows as how the family mutt needs all that back yard, and by the way, the same locomotive can be purchased for $70 at my local hobby shop in HO gauge.

This is the same woman who just spent $2100 on a sewing machine.

There is no justice in the world.

Yes, definetly a good idea, and I will add that we should restore it and keep it at the Amtrak depot on the old MILW in Sturtevant, WI, they have a siding that goes accross the street to a small museum that would be a perfect place!
