I have been to Joliet station several times, but I need help on how to get to the EJ&E freight yard. Can some one please give me directions from RT53 in Joliet?

Well the sarcastic answer is that you do not. The EJ&E enjoys and actively cultivates its reputation as the most railfan unfriendly of railroads.

From IL. 53, turn East on US 6. The bridge goes over the South end of the yard.
Agree with DKnelson and add that this is not a particularly fan friendly area to hang around.

Thank you very much. Dknelson, how bad could it be. [;)] People obviously go into it, as I have seen pictures on www.railpictures.net. I realise the area might be a little corrupt, but what if you stay right on US 6, or stay on the very edge of the freight yard.

Oh come on, that's not true... They have their Grumpy Guss's, just like most railroads, but I don't think they deserve that title.

And yes... You can drive past the yard, but there's not a whole lot of ways to actually stop and watch. There's no way to actually go into it without permission. Which if you are very lucky, they might grant.
