Via Rail "Canadian" - Question on travel dates
Posted by AcelaEx on Friday, November 29, 2019 8:33 AM

Was looking for a little help on planning a trip on the "Canadian"
from Toronto to Vancouver.   Was thinking of going in August which is a peak period-  however the discounts for April travel make it quite inviting.   Wondering what will be the pros and cons of April travel vs August- primarily in terms of scenery along the route.... any other insight is appreciated... Thanks!

It depends what you are looking for. Weatherwise August is better as depending when you go in April there will still be snow in some parts, particularlily in the mountains and northern Ontario. Bugwise, there are fewer mosquitos and black flies in August than April. Temperature wise, August is warmer than April everywhere. As you say, moneywise Aoril is cheaper.

You will be INSIDE a train so weather will be no problem, it will be your choice as to what scenery you want to see, we do have winter for a ''while" so you will see the same scenery  only it may be covered in snow, entirely up to you what you want to see out your window, well worth the trip.
