American Flyer

My grandfather bought an American Flyer train set prior to my Mom's birth. My Mom is 20some years older than I am. When I was young, I played with the train set in my grandfather's basement -- without mercy. My grandfather found a buyer of the set when I was very young (and I pitched a fit), but he did not sell the train set. Now, I am 35 years old and do not know where to go to have repairs performed on the tranformer, the frayed electrical cords on the locomotives, etc. The locomotives, cars, and track is in my attic.
Any suggestions about restoration would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Mike

Have you tried your nearest hobby shop?Have you gone on-line to one the related makers and inquired as to whether they still may carry some parts for that, or know who does? Just some suggestions...............

There was a hobby shop in a nearby mall which was biased toward model train enthusiasts --they went out of business about 18 months ago. I never expected them to go out of business and accordingly did not aggressively pursue the restoration issue. There does not seem to be another provider within 150+ miles. If you are aware of restorers or sellers of parts/components (on the Internet, please advise -- I am a novice.
Thanks for your response and help.
