I have heard that bridges in the highway system are also becoming a problem. A nationwide takover of the rails by the government rings of communism. What about BioDiesel ? I once read an article in Scientific American that though there is no agreement as to how long among the sources, it is agreed that oil will run out. Something also pointed out in the article is that it won't be like somebody turning the tap off; it will become harder and harder to find over many years. Yes, my steam loco ideas are cooky.
