Muskego Yard in Milwaukee - Report and Question
Posted by CMStPnP on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 12:59 PM

Just back from Wisconsin trip and noticed that Muskego Yard in Milwaukee seems to be filling up with cars again.    Though it looks like long blocks of the same types of car.   Long strings of frac sand hopper cars.    Long strings of large grain hopper cars, some box cars and general merchandise mixed in.   Wondering if this is now storage for future port calls of ships or if this is some kind of block swapping going on between trains that pass through the yard?

Anyone know?

Last time I was in the city the yard was almost entirely empty.

The yard has at least one full time switch crew usually switching with two back to back CP painted geeps of some sort to switch the various lines in the city using Muskego Yard as a base of operations.

FWIW: Regarding storage, last weekend I was in the Elkhorn/Delevan area and saw quite a number of stored grain cars.

I guess it could be storage.
