Now, something like THIS has been around since a certain famous "Flying Ace" took to the sky years ago.  The technology's just gotten better.

I believe it was my Air Force vet son who told me they tried to put modern turbofans on a B-52 and had to de-rate them as the airframe couldn't handle them.

So yes - put a big enough engine on it and it'll fly.

Recall, too, that they fly M1 tanks (nearly 70 tons) inside aircraft...  A C17 has a payload in the 88 ton range.
