MotivePower / GE Locomotive Division Merger?

Now that MotivePower and GE Locomotive are both owned by Wabtec is there going to be a merger of the business groups?

That would be an internal corporate matter and may not happen for a while, if it even happens.  I'm sure that each business unit is involved in fields other than locomotive building and rebuilding so it may take some time to sort everything out.

The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

    Seems like, IMHO, that this 'merger' might be a good fit for both organizations. MPI as a company, has been around for something like 20 years. But like many railfans, is a company we are/were only tangentially, aware of via their infrequently, reported news releases(?)

Note, also it is tied to the Wabtec website via link. Having been merged into a corporate family in 1999. FTL:"...MotivePower, Inc. (MPI), based in Boise, Idaho, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Wabtec Corporation which was formed in November 1999 when Westinghouse Air Brake Company merged with MotivePower Industries..."

Since this merger has just happened; it is not yet mentioned on the GE Transportation website: Linked here @

Will be an interesting progression, as the merger takes place, and the corporate 'power' structure sorts itself out!

In conformance with today's business operations and PSR among the railroads - it will be more interesting in which segments of the combined business are eliminated in cost containment efforts.
