Heat restrictions this week?
Posted by blue streak 1 on Thursday, January 31, 2019 6:02 PM

There have been forecasts that the extreme change in temperatures will cause a swing of 70 degrees.  There have been hints that the RRs will need heat orders slowing operations because the welded rail will be unstable,  Is there any truth  to these hints? That is going from -30 to 40 F  or more!

If they have cold weather restrictions in place, they'll probably just leave them in place longer.

I've been surprised that we haven't experienced more broken rails the last few days.  There have been some, but not as many as in past cold snaps.  I guess we made up for it in the number of power switch failures.

Deshler, OH had a couple of issues, no doubt cold related.  Viewers got to watch fire snakes at work at the diamond due to a likely broken bolt/pull-apart.

But it's been consistently cold for the past week, so wide swings haven't been an issue there or here in my area.

Hey, Jeff, you just came up with a good name for them..."Cold snaps"!

I'd much rather have a ginger snap or a licorice snap.
