On the other hand, we might be celebrating our weather Thursday with a DQ blizzard, too...it's supposed to be tickling 70 degrees out there! Trouble is, we may need umbrellas to do it. Most of what was left of the snow in our yard (very tall piles at one point, from our driveway) is pretty well gone.Mine's a Hawaiian Blizzard, with strawberries instead of bananas (allergic to fresh banana, doncha know).

You're right about that. Lynn has observed that I'm not ready for retirement and she hit the nail on the head. The hardest part will be what to do with the free time when I stop working. My job has its good days and bad days, but overall I like my work and it pays well so I'm expecting to keep working for a few more years.
The wind quit and the large glowing orb is about to make an appearance.....Appears Sioux Falls is next on the DQ Blizzard tour.

Eastern Nebraska and western Iowa under water in places. UP is shut down. I tied up yesterday about this time away from home, 9 times out and I'm still 9 times out 24 hours later. UP has spots under water, CN does too. I've seen pictures of the Boyer River around Logan IA over the UP and CN tracks.
My supplies were running low, so I ventured over to the Wal-mart near the motel. The sustained 30mph winds weren't too bad. The 50mph gusts made me feel like those Weather Channel idiots trying to stand out in the winds during a hurricane.

Ns was clear when I left work.Had some rain.Have a little sunshine.Round 2 is suppossed the bad part tonight.Glad tomorrow is Friday.Errands to run.
We are somewhere in the center of the storm now, with the temperature dropping...it was over 60 earlier today, and is now 40. After "sunrise" tomorrow morning, the rain will change to snow. Temps will continue to drop until about noon, when the precipitation will end. (It will actually go below freezing tomorrow night).We'll have a lot of small branches to clean up once the wind dies down.
We were a bit luckier out our way. The wind was still nasty but not too many problems with downed trees or power lines like some areas. The snow is expected to be a half inch at most so it barely counts.

Here in the Wichita area, the wind has finally died own, and it has become a beautiful Fall Day, temp at about 32 deg, and it is supposed to have a high of 50. May my morning trip out this AM.
i know Joe Koh reports on the railroad activity arounbd his home town, and I notices something 'strange' around Mulvane this AM. There has been a mixed freight parked on the North line since early Thursday afternoon, and there is a UPRR (trackage rights?) tank train parked on the line to Wichita, and also one parked out East of town.... Pretty unusual for around here... Wonder if there has been some 'unreported problem' in the area (Wellington yard and Sou T-con )? Just askin'.
Maybe related to Jeff's problems a few posts back?

Ns local was in the siding.Eastbound came into town as well when I left work.Rainy drizzly windy yucky out.Matt's youth group leader reported that everyone was registered for their mission trip.Also reported everything was paid.Going to do chores.Matt gets to do dishes again tonight.
Matt served lunch with his youth group today.Csx sent a few trains by The q 090 today was the stack express.It had no reefer or other cars with it.Matt gets to go do dishes later.
For the first time in several years, we actually sold out of chicken before we ran out of customers! We just never know how things will go.
It's too bad for those who didn't get any dinners, but makes closing things out that much easier!
