In the TRAINS article[page7 of August issue]: The question seems to come to mind what will happen to the name 'G E Trans.' ? Does it go away, as a function of the new ownership?
The article states[in part] : "...The merger is a complex spinoff of G.E. Transportation from its beleagured parent, General Electric. GE is slimming down to its' fastest growing, and most profitable business segments.
Under the terms of the deal. GE wil receive $2.9 Billion from Wabtec. Existing Wabtec shareholders will own 49.9 % of the Company. GE shareholders will own 40.2%, with GE Corp retaining a 9.9% stake. The GE ransportation business will be distributed to GE shareholders through a tax-free spinoff, then immediately merged with Wabtec. GE's stake will be locked up for 90 days, but it must sell its 9.3 % share of the company within 3 years. The company will be operated under the Wabtec name, and be based at Wabtec's headquarters in Wilmerding,Pa., outside of Pittsburg..."
Does it mean that in some point in the future, railfans will be standing track- side; and get excited when that train led by 'New' WABTECs'(?) comes drilling by? Just note me as perplexed.

I can see it already: the units delivered in primer run past and we get posts about the wittle gway WABtecs.

samfp1943Actually, the one I had thought about, was the video that circulated around here of a young 'foamer'; who just absolutely, went crazy, screaming, about whatever locomotive was coming at his camera, at that time.
Here's his YouTube page,
I shan't provide the parody version that the media and Interwebs thought was the serious one.
Well, if you want to throw GE a bone and keep the G, there is always “Gabtecs”. Everybody will be talking about them.
Since Wabtec already have the name "Motive Power"...
That should do.
Peter
Since it's a joint venture, with GE having a big chunk of ownership, GeWab, or WabGe come to mind....
I will let others come up with better/ more playfull possibilities....

How about "IHTWBTOBJV"? I Hope This Works Better Than Our Baldwin Joint Venture.
My recollection was that Westinghouse teamed with Baldwin and GE teamed with Alco.
So are you talking about Westinghouse, and is that relevant?

Yes, it was about Westinghouse. It's also about making light and having a sense of humor. Sorry if you weren't so endowed.
I believe I have the standard issue of humour (we spell it differently)...
But shouldn't it have read:
"I Hope This Works Better Than Their Baldwin Joint Venture" since neither GE nor Wabtech (nor even the Westinghouse Air Brake Company) were involved in that venture. Westinghouse Electric was a different organisation.....
