https://freight.uber.com/   What if shippers could make shipping as easy as using there I-Phone? What is railroad shippers could do the same?

The Uber ap is most applicable to the spot market where shippers try to connect with available capacity in real time. Most shippers have a stable matrix of customers and suppliers.. i.e. they ship the same volumes in the same lanes week after week and month after month. Thus they're able to secure capacity well in advance without the need of a search ap like this. For example.. I have a shipper who needs a dry van trailer at 3:00 pm every Wednesday.. just like he needed one one every Wednesday  10 years ago.. and just like he'll likley need one every Wednesday in the year 2035. Same with the railroads.. they know who their customers are and when they need cars spotted. No ap required.
