Las Vegas Monorail - Back in Action
Posted by MP57313 on Sunday, December 26, 2004 5:50 PM
According to an article in the 12/25/04 Los Angeles Times, the Las Vegas Monorail started operating again on Friday the 24th. It had been closed since Sept. 8. The monorail is an interesting way to travel between casinos (though you don't see the UP from the monorail route).

Hopefully they have all the bugs worked out now!

...My visits to Las Vegas {many}, were long before the monorail existed and I've wondered what it may look like...Is it comparable to Disney's in Florida or smaller in size...Can anyone comment.

QM,
It really is somewhat "Disney-like", regarding the look and interior of the cars. The stations are rather spartan but there is plenty of room on the platforms.

...Mike, thanks....I just went over to Google and found a pic of the sysem and, for sure...it does resemble the Florida system at Disney World.

...Very unfortunate for it to have so much trouble...Disney's has been running for almost 34 years and overall it seems to have been extremely successful.

The only monorail I have ever been on was at Disneyland in California.

Good Times.

Did they say what the problem was exactly? I assume fairly serious to close it that long.

A washer fell off the wheel assembly. A very large washer. This followed the loss of an wheel/tire assembly completely from the vehicle a few weeks prior.

Yeah, that would be a good reason to shut it down.
