I have noticed that when I go through old posts (as far back in the forum as one can go) that it seems like a question like this pops up periodicly. I don't recall seeing much, if any, UP locomotives on SP before the merger. The same with BN and ATSF. So why do so many people assume that the locomotives from one railroad company on another company's rails signal an impending merger?

...how often do you see competitors in other industries working together?
We all know that happends, but if a UPS guy showed up at my door delivering a Package in Fedex wrapping, I would probably think that some sort of a merger was going on.

Or if I went to McDonalds and they were serving Dairy Queen Ice Cream, I would probably think there was some sort of merger going on there.

Seems to me that for someone who doesn't know about power sharing, it's a logical thing to think.
