Please help me find a Trains article
Posted by KBCpresident on Wednesday, February 07, 2018 10:52 PM

I read a story in Trains a while back about a young man who traveled the western rail system shortly before Amtrak was established. He meets a lover in Seattle, and to his surprise she ends up traveling with him for part of his journey. He sees her "holding a cascade Green Ticket folder" or somethgn like that. The article mentions UP's so called "City of Hinkle," how it was mostly employees riding it, but I don't recall any other trains he took. It has one of those maps that frequently appear in Trains where the entire journey is shown on a map of the USA, and each leg of the journey is colorcoded and has a corresponding colored info box that lists the date that train ride occured and a tidbit that was interesting about it, sort of a "journey at a glance" sort of thing.

Does any one have any idea what I'm talking about? If so, can you please tell me which issue this was in? I'd love to read it again. Thanks!

Best thing I can tell you is to use the Magazine Index at:

http://trc.trains.com/magazineindex

Use the "Advanced Search", input "Trains" for the magazine, and your best guess for the dates (years) and keywords.

Good luck!

I am pretty sure this 'article' in question, was in TRAINS...I do not remember the specific issue; possibly, someone with the TRAINS' CD SET, that has the lists of articles might be able to 'nail it' down for you.? Thumbs Up

Awesome.  I enjoyed that article, too!

I'm going to subscribe myself and my Dad to the online back issue service.
