Alco RS3 Operating in Arizona
Posted by lazyfortress on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 12:50 PM

Hello.  I'm trying to build an Arizona-themed railroad, and I've been trying to find any Alco RS3s that operated in Arizona.

I know that SMARRCo/MARCCo and Magma Copper operated RS3s in Arizona, but are there any other lines that used the RS3 in Arizona?

Did any RS3 "Hammerheads" operate in Arizona?

Any information is appreciated!

The only hammerheads of which I'm aware were on Lehigh Valley (RS3) and Chicago & North Western (RSD5).

I believe that ATSF operated RSD5's in Arizona but that's about as close to an RS3 as you'll get.

The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

The RSD-5's were pushers on Raton and Cajon plus south of AQ on the  for a lot of their careers and the Alligators (RSD-15/RSD-20's) were used to feed the dragons on the Salt River Project coal trains from York Canyon until the SD39s took over.
