Deshler Ohio-crossroads of the B&O Matt eats your fries.YUM! Clinton st viaduct undefeated against too tall trucks!!!(voted to be called the "Clinton St. can opener").
Should be a pretty busy line- lots of Bakken crude, stackers to/from Seattle/Vancouver, grain trains, Amtrak's Empire Builder (EB in early morning, WB later in evening if on time). Not sure, but new Northstar commuter service might be using BNSF tracks as well.

You need to head north of Rogers about 7-8 miles or so to Elk River. There is a long sweeping S curve there where you can see them coming and going for a ways and the lighting for photography is pretty good because of the angle options that the curve gives you. Stackers and Amtrak will usually have their ears pinned back and be charging hard through town.
This is former Northern Pacific and is double track territory, but there is occasional fleeting of eastbound from the west due to a single track section to the west between Little Falls and Staples.
Head to Big Lake if you want to catch North Star. You can take it right to the Twins Stadium to catch a ball game as the downtown station is right at Target Field. If you are lucky you might catch the Cleveland Indians in town. That ride will also take you through Northtown Yard and past the Milwaukee Road 4-8-4 261 shops on the way.
Thanks for the information. We'll see what we can find.
Rain moved through here today.Going to be a quick stop and go trip. Will put it on a to do list.thanks for the information.

Joe - we got between 4-6 inches of rain. That is very unusual for us. The storm popped up between here and about Salina KS and washed all the plants and animals. Did have everything from marble to billard size hail - we had none. Just nice rain for about 5 hours and good runoff. South Lincoln, which was really thought out before overbuilding had flooding in the streets. The city does some things that really do leave me breathless....

Our city is more sophisticated than that. The developers *donate* part of each new subdivision to the city as a dedicated park. Not surprisingly , they donate the wet, low-lying areas that aren’t suitable for housing. That way, when you have a gully-washer rainstorm, it floods the park first, and then the surrounding streets.
Thanks to Chris / CopCarSS for my avatar.
Heard you had some of our rain around Sioux Falls(?), I think that is where they said. Isn't that clever of those developers...now that I think about it, that seems to be what often happens here.
Rogers,MN is not on the doubletrack Staples Sub which is the mainline to the West Coast, rather it is on the Monticello Sub which is a branchline to its namesake town. It is served by the Monte Local on weekdays. The Staples Sub is on the other(east side) of the Mississippi River.

Personally, I try to keep my low-lying areas mostly dry.
