First Test Run of Stadler RABe 501 Giruno for Swiss Federal Railway

Here is a brief video clip of the new Stadler RABe501 Giruno making its first test runs over Swiss Federal Railway trackage at Romanshorn. Giruno is Swiss German for Buzzard.

Interesting, but unless they're GG1's or New Haven "Flatbottoms" I just can't get overly excited about electrics.

Which way to the fahrtgasse?

I counted 11 cars, including the end ones (windows look like some seats might be there, not just a power car only).

"Buzzard" ? I can just see the reaction and jokes with that name on an Amtrak train . . . Whistling

"Girun" is actually Romansh, with an o added for whatever reason. Not sure why they decided to name a train "Buzzard" but that's their choice...

Allsh bereich.  -O.

The ending gives it that Italian-sounding cachet ... like Mom's accent, Beaky?

My opinion is his:

Proud of their diner - painted differently than the rest of the train.

Never too old to have a happy childhood!

Standard practice on all SBB trains and trainsets that have diners is that the window band should be red, while coaches use dark grey. The 29 trainsets will be named after the 26 Cantons and Half-Cantons, plus the three longest tunnels on the SBB. They will be the used on Intercity and Eurocity trains between Zürich/Basel and Lugano/Chiasso/Milano.

No, we need to merge this with the lithium battery thread and send 'em to Hinckley, Minnesota.

And park it next to the Hinckley Fire Museum located in the old depot?

Big Smile MC !

I almost hate to be the one to point this out, but the Hinckley birds are not at  all the same as the kind the train is named for.

It remains to be seen what this train would be called if sold here... not very good for marketing to call it a Turkey Giruno

I can't see the nose paint clearly enough in the link provided, but if it is like what is on the RABe511 here ... that nose is sure vulturesque:

The nose on a Giruno is more elongated than the nose RABe511 "Kiss".
