California track closures
Posted by blue streak 1 on Monday, February 13, 2017 12:06 PM

The conditions are very fluid *( pun intended ) and is impossible to keep current but here is some problems.  Mostly it affects UP but am sure BNSF is as well.

Donner still having problems. UP closed north of Sacremento causing busing of Starlight passengers segments unknown. UP closed Stockton <> Sacremento due to reported leve failures.  Reports UP is detouring northern California either on coast route probably delaying Amtrak,   From Bakersfield over Altamont then Oakland to Sacremento although Yolo causeway down to 3 ft above water.  Capitol corridor expects delays due to excessive UP freight.

CC bulletin

Capitol Corridor <capitolcorridor@public.govdelivery.com> Delays anticipated Mon 2/13-Tue 2/14: Union Pacific will be rerouting freight trains as a result of weather-related track shutdown. While our trains will still operate, we do anticipate delays to Capi

Hope our California and Nevada posters can post many pictures of the work that is needed to correct these many washouts and mudslides.

What we need to see is the back office support items to do this work.  Its not easy to stage repair crews and materials to locations.   That is especially true for multiple disruptions of a route that precludes getting men and material to a location if roads are also  impaired ?

Would imagine that engineering forces in Omaha and Ft. Worth will have to dig thru many documents to get information that may not have been updated for decades.  Everything from deeds, easements, surveys, drawings, construction contracts, as-builts, etc.
