Marquette Iowa turntable at Prarie du Chein WI?
Posted by Doublestack on Sunday, September 18, 2016 8:42 AM

Good morning, I came across an old thread the reference to Marquette Iowa turntable move to Prairie du Chein Wisconsin for possible installation in some sort of a park or museum.    Again, it was a relatively old thread. Does anyone know if it's still there or if it has since been scrapped? Thank you

Thx, Dblstack

Is this it lying on the ground in PduC?

43° 3'27.13"N, 91° 8'14.88"W

To the north of that is what appears to be track panels (with guard rails) that could be some of the radial tracks from the pit.

43° 3'29.74"N, 91° 8'13.91"W

The one at Marquette was at (seems to have been removed between 1994 and 2004 :

 43° 2'37.45"N, 91°11'31.08"W

Hi Semper, Thanks for the speedy reply.   The portion that is partially obscured by the trees does have a look similar to beams from a turntable.  I did a street view there and that yard appears to be a company called "Design Homes."  They build modular / double-wide homes.  I think what is seen to the north of there are the carriers (frames) that they use to transport the modules to the home site.   That part in the trees may be more of the same, but it's hard to tell.   Worthy of further investigation.   Thanks again for the tip- greatly appreciated.

Your coordinates are a bit screwy (period instead of a degree symbol), but yes, that sure looks like a turntable bridge... street view also shows several cabeese, a passenger car of some sort and some other older style RR cars near it.

43° 03' 42.82"N, 91° 09' 26.76"W

You can type the degree symbol ° by holding down the Alt key and typing 0176 on the numeric keypad (if you have one!)... be sure to include the leading zero, when you release the Alt key the symbol will appear.  There are several esoteric characters you can type that way if you know the 4 digit code... I typed the degree symbol so often I got that one memorized!
