Great shot, the back and white is a nice throwback.

Corailfan, I really like the photo - especially the effect of the snow combined with the subdued colours...thank you for submitting it.

Good to hear about organizations doing railway restoration work and preserving the railway heritage.

Thanks for replies, what's weird is that this was Photo of the Day about six months ago too. I actually took the picture for a B&W photography class that I was taking then, so I developed the film and made the print too.

The cars are located on the old UP main that is now defunct. There are a bunch of other cars there as well: 3 DRGW narrow gauge wooden gondolas, 2 passenger cars (one C&S and one Army), 2 cabooses (one UP and one BN), a C&S standard boxcar, several other unidentified narrow gauge wooden boxcars and two engines (one switcher from Public Service Company of Colorado and one from the Great Western Railway of Colorado).

Ifish, the cars are located near the intersection of Valmont and 63rd, which is north and east of town. I'm not really sure what is planned for them, I think that BCRHS is planning on eventually having a public display there at the Valmont site. They already have another public display of the steam engine Colorado & Northwestern #30 in a downtown park, but out on Valmont I think they can have a lot more space to put things on display.

Also for those interested, the BCRHS website is: http://www.boulderrail.org
