Norfolk Southern also plans to spend $225 million for equipment, including $154 million to purchase 52 six-axle locomotives, upgrade existing locomotives, and rebuild other equipment.
Does anyone know what six-axle locomotives NS is buying? GE or EMD

There was a thread the other day on this topic.... Right now, NS is wrapping up an order of 67 GE Dash Nines along with 25 additional SD70M's. A post on another webgroup indicated that the SD70M's which are being built between now and the end of the year, to beat the Tier 2 deadline, may be counted in the 2005 Budget as part of the 52. Since they won't all be delivered until after Jan 1st. Whether they are doing the same with the remaining Dash 9's has yet to be seen.....might be just creative bookkeeping....if any of the 52 turn out to be tier 2, could be either ES40DC's, or SD70M-2's Dave Williams http://groups.yahoo.com/group/nsaltoonajohnstown
