Telegraphers?
grate cleaners?
caboose stoves?
gandy dancer gangs?
All the above were features of my youth, now gone forever.I recall a one legged
telographer in southeast Kentucky who gave me the opportunity to send a tap message to the dispatch office in Corbin. Cheap but so impressive for young lad.

Telegraphers were replaced by radios, phones and data transmission.

Caboose stoves were too big to install in FREDs, so they went the way of the caboose.

Grate cleaners are hard to find. There are a couple of decent ones around where I live, but they're not grate.

The gandy dancer's lead singer left to pursue a solo career, then he found Islam and moved to England. They continued on for a few years, but the last two albums were not commerical successes. I hear they're on the casino and cruise ship circuit now.

There are times when I see something truly funny and want to add to it hoping to get even more laughs; and there are times like today when I am smart enough to realize that the above post is so choice that it would by quite fooli***o try to add to it.

Brilliant.
