Steam Excursions
Posted by djtodd3 on Monday, May 16, 2016 6:37 PM

I've seen alot of pictures and videos of steam excursions happening, is there a website that has the schedule of upcoming events?

Oops. I feel a little embarrassed now.

Well, I have to carefully read what I have written before I send it--and sometimes I forget to do so--and there are times that I read, and miss something that I should have caught. As Sam says, we need the spell checker that we used to have. A grammar check would come in handy, but I doubt that we will ever have a checker that determines if too, to, or two is the proper word to use.

As it is, I am sorry that I am unable to answer your question.

Keep on taking part in the forums--ask questions, answer such  questions as you are able to, report your observations--and enjoy the company of people who appreciate railroading.

By the way, are you aware that it is possible to have posts made to forums and/or threads that interest you sent to you by email? There are places where you can check "subscribe to this thread" and "subscribe to this forum" (or something like that)--and you will receive emails with new posts to the forums and/or threads that interest you.

I know of no specific site that lists all steam (and other) excursions, although IIRC Trains did a "tourist railroad" insert not long ago.

Probably the best bet would be to do a search on "steam excursions."  While this will likely give you past as well as present excursions, it will also give you an idea of who does excursions, when, and where.

Then you can explore them.  Most individual operations will list planned excursions through their season on their websites.

The big locomotives generally run out of their bases or major events.  There are several (Viscose 6, Little River 110, among others) that can be trucked around.

After that, you can decide what you want to chase/ride.

Probably the best you can do is look at the top of the "Trains" web page.  Look for "Resources."  Click on that, then click on "Coming Events."

You'll see "Excursions" listed (click on the if you're looking for some) plus a whole lot of other railfan-interest things.  It's quite accurate too.

It was much easier when excursions were printed in the Trains classified secton.  Their website listing does not seen complete.
