the lawyer for engineer Harding is filing motions for a stay of proceedings.. This is the first I've heard that Harding was treated abusively when he was arrested (or, indeed, that Canadian 'police' authorities might act with less than full discretion in emotionally-charged circumstances...)
(Note the link in the article to another that claims -- surprise, surprise! -- that some people in Lac Megantic may suffer from PTSD. Good to see that in modern media-trolling 'the beat goes on')
No surprise there. It sounds as if Global, like their American media counterparts, has, itself, become a victim of the "Everyone has to be a Victim syndrome".
OTOH, I have no doubt those in Lac Megantic are suffering as a result of that accident.

Just to be clear, of the communities with a legitimate 'right' to claim PTSD in a large number of its members as the result of a catastrophe, Lac Megantic is very high on the list. I don't want to suggest in any way they are exploiting a 'victim' status or claiming an entitlement of some sort for it. I was only noting the newsworker exploitation of the rather obvious concept that concern about being nearly blown up in a sea of flame might produce PTSD at a subsequent time.
I don’t see anything of the classic political victimology in the news reporting about PTSD resulting from Lac Megantic disaster. Why is it understandable and acceptable for the Lac Megantic residents to claim PTSD, and yet considered to be trolling when the news media reports that?
PTSD is not some victim/lawyer entitlement boondoggle. It is a very real and serious disorder. That said, there is some evidence that it is over-diagnosed or over-claimed, as the NIMH incidence and prevalence rates would suggest.
